3.17.2020: The Solano Church Community will Help You Through

Dear Church-

Shelter in Place

Monday afternoon we learned that all six Bay Area counties have now issued an order to “shelter in place” until at least April 7. I pray that as we all diligently follow this recommendation, the impact will be significant and we will decrease the loss of life from the Coronavirus. Even if we are not in an “at-risk” group, our interactions with others can spread the disease and jeopardize their lives.

Although there is a great deal we cannot do as a result of this order, there is still much we can do as a church continuing to live on mission. I was so encouraged by last Sunday’s live stream worship and many of you shared that you were as well. In addition to worshiping “together,”  we can pray for each other, we can encourage one another, we can serve each other… from six feet away. As you will see below, God’s mission for Solano Church continues. I’m excited to see how the Lord will work in our lives during this extraordinary time. I have faith that he will, likely in ways we had not imagined.

Sunday Worship

For the foreseeable future we will be streaming the worship service online with only the Core Production team present at the El Cerrito Campus. We had a wonderful online turnout this past weekend for the two services and we will be continuing to record the service at 9AM and replay it immediately at 11AM.

Home Group

With the new “shelter in place” order, Home Group gatherings are no longer feasible. We will be providing a Zoom account to every Home Group leader so that meetings can continue online at their regular time. If you are not in a Home Group at this time but would like to join one, please contact Pastor Danté

Prayer

There is so much to pray for and what better time to pray than while “sheltering in place.” I’ve seen recently how encouraging it is to know that others are praying for us during this time. Please use this form to share your requests with us.  Let’s be a praying church during this time!

Congregational Care

  • Seniors. We are currently checking on those senior congregants who are “at-risk”. As our list may be incomplete, we would like you to please check in with us, to let us know that you are doing well or if you need assistance or information. Contact: Ang Lip Lim

  • Other “At-Risk” Individuals. We’d love to know who else in our congregation fits into the “at-risk” category (who is at-risk?). Please let one of the Elders know via the email addresses below if you are “at-risk” and are comfortable sharing that with the church leadership. We want to pray for you and watch out for you.

  • Financial Hardship. Some workers are losing significant income during the Coronavirus outbreak. We have benevolence funds available. If you are in need, please let us know at benevolence@solanochurch.org. (Benevolence Guidelines, Benevolence Application).

  • Healthcare Workers. Thank you for serving on the front lines. We want to pray for you so please fill out this form.

  • Staff. All but three staff are working remotely from home. Those in the office are following social distancing guidelines. Solano meetings, counseling, etc. are being conducted online via Zoom.

Community Care and Outreach

  • Neighbors. Checking in on elderly and at-risk neighbors is a simple way for us to live out our faith. Consider leaving a note on your neighbor’s doors with your contact info and an offer to help buy groceries, be a contact person or other (this assumes you are not also “at-risk”). My wife, Jodie, did this and she has been getting wonderful and grateful texts from many of our neighbors.

  • Count Me In and the Homeless. We are working on possible opportunities to serve our Count Me In recipients and/or the homeless community. If you are personally in need, please contact Ryan Julius. If you are interested in helping serve, please fill out this survey

  • Local Businesses. If there are local businesses you know you will frequent in the future, please consider purchasing gift cards now as a way to help them through this time. This is a way to care for and support the people in our community.

  • Ideas? If you have ideas, please share them with me or share them directly to our Facebook group.

Giving

As we frequently say, giving is first and foremost a discipleship issue. We give in connection with our relationship with Jesus Christ, the chief giver. Solano giving is currently running below budget. Some uncertainty in all this is to be expected, but please don’t let the fact that we are not gathering at the campus keep you from giving. We have several ways to give online or via mail. If you are able to increase your support and help us stay on track, please do.

Gospel Academy

There will be no Gospel Academy this week. We are looking into bringing back an online version next week. Stay tuned. Session one is available here.

Pastor Andrew’s Personal Recommendations

  • Consider how this time of slowness and relative solitude might be used for spiritual growth. Spend a little more time reading your Bible, praying and reflecting. Listen to scriptures, sermons and podcasts that will encourage your walk with Jesus. See the links below for some options.

  • Consider making a plan for the day that is front-loaded with healthy activities (discipleship, exercise, fruitful work) so that you don’t careen from one negative input to the next.

  • Establish predetermined times when you will scan the news so you don’t become a 24hr news junkie. I’m trying to limit my check-ins to morning, noon and night. Do the same for social media.

  • If you are working from home and on a screen all day, make sure to take breaks and to get outside for a walk or other exercise.

The staff, church council, and elders are here for you. In fact, I know we have an entire congregation of people ready to serve.  Please let us know how we can help. In addition to all that, we have the Holy Spirit! The Bible refers to him as the counselor, the comforter, the helper. We are in good hands.

Blessings,

Pastor Andrew
