Church & Community Summary
Solano Community Church (Solano) was planted in November 2004 to be a light for Christ in the East San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay)—one of the least-churched regions in the United States.
The church began when 25 people were sent out from an Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) church in Oakland and began meeting at the city of Albany Community Center. In its 21-year history, Solano has become known as a warm and welcoming congregation marked by strong worship, gospel-centered preaching, and an outward-facing posture of service and compassion.
From its earliest years, Solano has attracted undergraduate and graduate students from UC Berkeley, as well as young professionals and families drawn to the East Bay for education and career opportunities. As a result, the congregation is diverse, multi-generational, multi-cultural, and often international, with the largest groups being Caucasian and Asian American. These attendees tend to live close to the church’s El Cerrito location and its surrounding towns to the south: Albany, Kensington, and Berkeley, and to the north: Richmond and San Pablo, as well as others.
